Time heals all wounds

“Time heals all wounds,” goes the old saying…just before you fly into a fit of rage over the use of such an insensitive cliché, and sink stubbornly further into a lonely pit of despair.
Ill-timed as the advice may have been, your well-meaning friend could be right – according to a study at the Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Researchers Dr Michael Conway and Dr Wendy-Jo Wood first surveyed how 279 university students perceived the past events. They then investigated the emotional responses of 79 university students in relation to the students’ reflections on important memories.
Dr Conway told ABC Science: "What was striking is that the findings held up for a wide range of emotions.
"When making sense of their past experiences, people would downplay all the negative types of feelings they had, such as fear and anger.”
Of course, negative emotions don’t just magically disappear. According to Dr Conway, "the sad event is still mostly sad, but the positive emotions have come out more."
