The World's Most Terrifying Bugs!
January 21st 2008 08:26
I wouldn't normally use Cracked.com as a scientific reference, but with this article, I think we can all appreciate the twisted hilarity of this post.
Cracked.com: The 5 Most Horrifying Insects of All Time!
I've heard of most of these insects, but seeing them all in one place makes me thank Bog that we're big. And we live in cities which are relatively crazy-insect free.
You'll love this article - from the angry hornets of Tokyo (that attack bee hives) to the bullet ants (an ant with the most painful sting of all insects - and it shrieks before it attacks!) it seems that Nature has left us with the stuff of nightmares.
Many people have a fear of insects, but is that really so odd? I mean, some of these critters are bad for your wellbeing, and it'd probably help your survival rate if you stayed far, far away.
Check out the Bot Fly, which is a big, ugly burrowing larvae-type of sicko.
According to the article, in the worst case, if a botfly egg gets on your scalp, the larvae can actually burrow into your brain... check the post for an unsightly photo of said phenomenon.
I think it's fake. How would it get through your skull? Our bodies evolved to keep things like that on the outside of our brain!

" The Human Bot Fly lays its eggs on a horsefly or a mosquito, something that will attempt to land on a human. This carrier finds a human and lands on him or her. The eggs rub off onto the human, whose body heat hatches the eggs. The larvae drop onto the skin and burrow right the fuck in. Where they live. Under your skin. Eating."

Life in Germany
I'm usually terrified of creepy crawlies anyway, but the ones mentioned in this post are the scariest creatures-from-hell I have ever seen.
This info has turned me off ever visiting a rainforest.
