Standing up makes you lose weight
December 4th 2007 18:02
ABC news is reporting on research from the University of Missouri that takes aim at what most of us do all day - sitting.
Standing up is as good as exercise
Basically, ever since our species learned to sit down, we've grown big, fat asses. The Missouri researchers found that sitting causes the body to stop burning fat, whereas standing up keeps our body active.
And yes, they commented on video games. Your arms don't weigh that much, no matter how much you might flail your arms and twitch. Standing is a full body job, requiring the core muscles in the abdomen and legs.
It's an interesting idea, especially with companies taking an active role in their employees' health. Several companies use gyms and exercise programs for their workers, but a new alternative may just be to take away their chairs.
It's an interesting idea to take hold of... standing can't cause too many side effects (back pains, varicose veins, and blood pressure issues aside), and it's an easy solution. Especially given this image... yikes!

Love those moving graphs... very informative.. and yes... scary... still with population boom, we can afford to loose a few young these days, can't we?
I just get so mad when I see so many still starving and so many so big!
I'm sure that the Australian one wouldn't look much better, either?
