searching for alien life
April 14th 2006 21:29
After a good two decades of not finding anything with radio astronomy, the Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program is now looking toward optical devices for any clues of alien life. Researchers at the Oak Ridge Observatory, at Harvard University will be looking for telltale flashes of light with the telescope, which Harvard's Professor Paul Horowitz calls "the world's largest garbage can".

Given how well we govern ourselves, do you really think the human race is mature enough to meet with intelligent extra-terrestrial life?
I don't.

i'm pretty excited about this new optical search. before this, we were kinda banking on detecting radio waves from alien civilisations. but what if there were civilisations out there that simply didn't develop radio technology?
i agree with sog in that the human race is really immature, and our concept of "intelligence" has a long way to go before we find anything.
