Leopard attacks crocodile!
August 4th 2008 22:23
It's hard not to be overwhelmed by the fierce wildlife of Africa... they've got a magnificent diversity of big, angry animals, from stampeding herds of wildebeasts, to the spring-loaded cheetah, and every species seems locked in a vicious Darwinistic battle.
That's why, when you see a link called 'Leopard attacks crocodile', it's a sure hit.
It's a series of photos and video captured by wildlife photographer Hal Brindley, and it's magnificent.
"I was photographing hippos at a waterhole in Kruger National Park, South Africa, when it happened. For more info about that day read my story of The Best Day Ever."
What would possess a leopard to attack the crocodile? Food?
I dunno, I've tasted croc (on a Pizza in the Rocks) and it's pretty chicken-like. I'd rather chase a chicken than squirm with a crocodile in a waterhole.
Is it natural behaviour? Someone suggests that leopards are extremely aggressive hunters, and this croc was the right size. Perhaps an adolescent... look at the size of it! I could have broken that in half with my right foot!
Well, ok. Maybe not. But I certainly would have prodded it with a stick.
I don't usually like to link to the Telegraph, but they've picked out the good photos with a little bit of commentary.

I suppose what we can learn from this is: don't pet any animals in South Africa. These are mean, vicious animals, and they'd kill you and your family if they had the chance. And they're supremely beautiful while doing it...
