Hamsters in a game!
April 20th 2006 08:12
Forget frisbees, laser pointers and exercise wheels – pets will soon be able to battle it out against their owners in a computer game. “Mice Arena”, by the Emerging Art and Architecture Research Group (RASTER), Singapore, and the Mixed Reality Lab of Nanyang Technology University, Singapore, will use infra-red sensors to track the movements of a hamster as it chases a piece of bait.
The bait will be controlled by the in-game actions of a human evading a hungry monster rodent. A working prototype of the game is scheduled to be released in November this year.
“Mice Arena” will be one of three games to be created for the ambitious Metazoa Ludens Project. “Chicken Petman”, another game in the series, will involve a chicken chasing a bait in a maze, while “Jellyfishtrone” will translate the motion of a jellyfish into a game very similar to the classic Snake game.
