Drunk, sans side effects

April 12th 2006 07:25
“It’s a natural part of consciousness to change one’s consciousness”, Rick Doblin of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies told the New Scientist in 2004. Unfortunately, most drugs tend to have negative side effects including addictiveness, crime, violence and anti-social activity. Even alcohol, the most legally and socially accepted drug comes with health risks such as liver failure and depression.

A mixture of drugs could be the answer to our problems. The drug cocktail is designed to mimic the effects of alcohol on the brain, without the negative side effects. With health problems under control, perhaps we will be able to face the issue of drug use more objectively.

Is drug use wrong if it harms no one?
If it is not wrong, is it right?

Good choice of post. I think drug use is NOT wrong if it harms no-one, but that is rarely the case. Even if no-one ever sees you (or knows about it), those that love you can be indirectly hurt by your actions.

Your family and friend lose because your anti-social. Your work/schooling sufferes because your interest and drive wains. You lose out because your investing so much money (and time) in self destruction. Unless you have some sefl control.

ALL drugs have negative side effects, not just some. Indeed, if you look at the 'therapaudic index' on foods, it shows that that even water has a negative effect on your body. You don't see them all the time, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

In a nut shell, I think drug taking is not wrong, but nor do I think it's right. I do it, to be sure, but I don't advocate it.

i don't think drug use is something that can be advocated, sog. it's one of those things people do in private and as long as it bugs no one it's fine by me.

we're always told about the negative side effects of drugs, like depression. taken in moderation though, i don't think many of the effects come into significant play.

of course, drug addiction is bad. taking drugs 7 days a week with utter disregard for your family and friends is bad. but then the same can be said about taking anything to the extreme.
